Connected via Plaid Bank of Montreal

Connect BMO to Mozaic: every BMO account, alongside everything else.

Your BMO chequing, savings, Mastercards, lines of credit, and mortgages join the same multi-currency picture as your TFSA, RRSP, and brokerage positions. Read-only, through Plaid. You enter your BMO Online Banking credentials once in Plaid's secure, encrypted screen: Mozaic never sees or stores your password.

01 · The connection

BMO Online Banking, connected through Plaid

BMO connects through Plaid, like the other major Canadian banks. When you pick BMO inside Mozaic, Plaid Link opens a secure, encrypted window and you enter your BMO card number (or username) and password there, the same credentials you use on BMO Online Banking. Plaid verifies them with BMO and returns a read-only access token to Mozaic. Mozaic never sees or stores your password. If your BMO profile uses a security challenge (typically a verification code by SMS or email), Plaid Link prompts you for it during setup, the same step you'd get signing in to BMO online.

Once the connection is authorised, your accounts appear in the app within a minute and a rolling sync schedule keeps them current. Like other Canadian bank links, the BMO connection re-confirms access every few months. Mozaic surfaces an in-app reconnect prompt ahead of time so the connection doesn't quietly fail.

02 · Every BMO account, one roof

Chequing, savings, Mastercards, mortgages, and ReadiLine. All of it

Mozaic reads every product BMO exposes through Plaid. Deposit side: Performance Plan, Premium Plan, Plus, Practical, the Savings Builder and Premium Rate Savings tiered buckets, the US Dollar Premium Savings account, and the TFSA and RRSP cash savings accounts. Credit side: BMO eclipse Visa Infinite, CashBack World Elite Mastercard, AIR MILES World Elite, Preferred Rate Mastercard, CashBack Mastercard, and any business-card lines you hold on the same profile. Liabilities: BMO Homeowner ReadiLine (HELOC), personal lines of credit, and BMO mortgages, each with current rate and principal-paid trend.

The BMO Debit Mastercard sits in the chequing section, not the credit-card section. It's a debit card on the Mastercard network backed by your BMO chequing balance, not a separate liability. Mozaic categorises it as a chequing-tied debit instrument so the chequing balance doesn't get double-counted.

03 · BMO quirks worth knowing

The Debit Mastercard, BMO InvestorLine, and the ReadiLine

The BMO Debit Mastercard trips up other personal-finance apps because it has a Mastercard PAN but isn't a credit card. Mozaic reads it from Plaid as a chequing-tied debit instrument. Your chequing balance is the source of funds, and the Mastercard part is just the network used at non-Interac merchants. The result: one chequing balance, no double-counting.

BMO InvestorLine accounts are not part of this connection. InvestorLine lives on a different system from BMO Online Banking and Mozaic reaches it through SnapTrade rather than Plaid. The flow is similar (sign in at BMO, authorise read-only), but the token is held by SnapTrade. Both integrations sit in your Mozaic accounts list and refresh independently.

The BMO Homeowner ReadiLine is BMO's home-equity-line-of-credit product, structured so the line of credit limit grows as the secured mortgage principal pays down. Mozaic reads it as a separate liability from the underlying mortgage (same property, two products), so the cash-flow narrative can tell the fixed-rate mortgage interest apart from the variable-rate HELOC interest.

04 · Beyond the chequing line

BMO sits in a bigger picture once it's connected

BMO is the oldest Canadian bank, founded in 1817, and the fourth-largest by deposits. For a lot of Mozaic users it's the legacy account; for others it's the primary chequing where the paycheque lands. Either way, the point of connecting BMO isn't to see your BMO balance. BMO Online Banking does that already. The point is to see BMO alongside everything else: your Wealthsimple TFSA, your InvestorLine RRSP, the US-dollar account you keep with BMO Harris for cross-border spending. Mozaic composes them into one net-worth line in your reporting currency, narrates cash flow across the whole picture, and tracks goals against the accounts that fund them.

The institution is just the start of the story. The rest is what your money is doing across institutions.

BMO questions, answered.

Five questions specific to connecting BMO. General Mozaic security and pricing questions are answered at /security and /pricing.

Mozaic reads every BMO product Plaid exposes through BMO Online Banking: chequing (Performance Plan, Premium Plan, Plus, Practical Plan), savings (Savings Builder, Premium Rate Savings, US Dollar Premium Savings, TFSA and RRSP cash savings), credit cards (BMO eclipse Visa Infinite, CashBack World Elite Mastercard, BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard, BMO Preferred Rate Mastercard, BMO CashBack Mastercard), the BMO Debit Mastercard, BMO Homeowner ReadiLine, personal lines of credit, and BMO mortgages. Investments at BMO InvestorLine are read separately through SnapTrade since they sit on a different system inside BMO.
You connect BMO through Plaid. Plaid Link opens a secure, encrypted window where you enter your BMO card number (or username) and password once, the same credentials you use on BMO Online Banking. Plaid verifies them with BMO and returns a read-only access token to Mozaic. Mozaic never sees or stores your password. That token is what lets Mozaic read balances and transactions across your BMO products.
No, it shows up as a chequing/debit account, not a credit card. The BMO Debit Mastercard is a debit card backed by your BMO chequing account; the Mastercard network on it lets you tap and use it at non-Interac merchants, but it's still pulling from your chequing balance. Mozaic categorises it correctly so your chequing balance doesn't get double-counted as a separate Mastercard liability.
BMO connections re-confirm access on the same roughly-90-day cycle as the other major Canadian banks. Reconnecting works the same way as the initial setup (card number, password, and any security challenge BMO has on your profile), but is typically shorter because BMO remembers your device. Mozaic flags the upcoming reconnect in-app a few days ahead so the connection doesn't silently fail.
Yes. The BMO Homeowner ReadiLine is BMO's home-equity-line-of-credit product and comes through Plaid as a liability account, the same way the mortgage does. Mozaic treats both as negative entries in net worth, with the current rate attached. If you carry both (a fixed-rate BMO mortgage plus a variable-rate ReadiLine drawn for renovations, say), you'll see them as separate lines so the cash-flow narrative can tell the interest cost apart.
Yes. Mozaic connects to BMO through Plaid. You enter your BMO card number (or username) and password once in Plaid's secure, encrypted screen, and Mozaic never sees or stores your password. Mozaic then gets read-only access to balances and transactions across your BMO chequing, savings, and credit-card products.
