01 · The connection
Desjardins, connected through Plaid
When you click Add account in Mozaic and pick Desjardins, Plaid Link opens a secure, encrypted screen. You enter your AccèsD credentials there, the same ones you use for Desjardins online banking, and authorise read-only access. Plaid verifies them with Desjardins and returns a read-only access token to Mozaic. Mozaic never sees or stores your password, and the access is read-only, so nothing connected here can move money.
Desjardins does not use a redirect-based sign-in with Plaid, so unlike some institutions you are not bounced to the Desjardins website partway through and returned afterwards. The whole exchange stays on Plaid's screen and takes about ninety seconds. Once access is in place your accounts appear in Mozaic within a minute and start syncing on a rolling schedule. Canadian connections re-confirm access every few months, and Mozaic surfaces the reconnect prompt in the app so you do not discover a broken connection two weeks later.
02 · Every Desjardins account, one roof
Chequing, savings, Visa, mortgage
Mozaic reads the accounts Desjardins exposes through the Plaid integration. That covers the deposit side (your compte avec opérations, the savings accounts behind it, and the CELI and REER cash balances held at the caisse) and the credit side (Visa Desjardins cards, personal lines of credit, and mortgages). Balances and transaction history come through on all of them, so the spending narrative and the net-worth line are both complete.
Each account keeps its own currency and is converted to your reporting currency on the fly using the same daily rate Mozaic uses elsewhere. If you hold accounts at a caisse and a second institution, they compose into one number rather than sitting in two apps that disagree.

03 · Desjardins quirks worth knowing
The mortgage detail, Disnat, and the periodic reconnect
Your Desjardins mortgage arrives as a balance, without the loan detail. The interest rate, origination figures, next payment amount and year-to-date principal paid that some Canadian bank connections show all come from a separate Plaid product called Liabilities, and Desjardins does not expose it. We checked this against Plaid's production catalogue rather than assuming: Desjardins advertises transactions, balance, auth, identity, income, assets and transfer, and no liabilities. The balance itself is unaffected, so the mortgage still counts against your net worth and still falls as you pay it down. It is the loan detail card that stays empty, and that is expected rather than a fault.
Desjardins Online Brokerage (Disnat) is not part of this connection, and not part of any automated connection today. Canadian bank-owned brokerages sit at their own institution inside Plaid, separate from the retail bank, and no Desjardins institution advertises the investments product at all. SnapTrade's catalogue does not carry Disnat either. You can still track Disnat holdings in Mozaic as manual assets, with balances and positions you update on your own cadence, so they sit beside the rest of your accounts in net worth and goals. If that coverage changes we will surface a one-click upgrade from the manual entry to the live connection.
The periodic reconnect is the institution's choice, not Mozaic's. PIPEDA and OSFI guidance leans on time-bounded consent for third-party data access, and Canadian institutions have converged on a window of a few months. The reminder lands in-app a few days before access lapses; clicking it walks you through the same Plaid screen you saw the first time, just shorter, and your history stays where it is.
04 · Beyond the caisse
Desjardins sits in a bigger picture once it's connected
The point of connecting Desjardins is not to see your Desjardins balance. AccèsD does that already. The point is to see Desjardins alongside everything else: the Wealthsimple CELI, the Questrade margin account, a spouse's account at another institution, and the card you keep elsewhere for the cashback. Mozaic composes them into one net-worth line in the currency you choose, runs the cash-flow narrative across the whole picture, and tracks goals (a down payment, CELI room, a CELIAPP timeline) against the accounts that actually fund them.
Desjardins is the largest financial institution in Quebec and for many members it is the anchor account, the one everything else is measured against. Mozaic is built in Montreal and ships in French and English, so the app you land in speaks the same language as the caisse you connected. The institution is just the start; the rest is what your money does across all of them.
