Creating your own categories
Add, edit and delete your own categories, choose an emoji icon and a group, and decide where a deleted category's transactions go.
Updated
Mozaic comes with a set of categories. When none fits, create your own: it works everywhere a category does, in transactions, rules and budgets.
Where to manage them
Go to Settings > Preferences > Categories. This list shows only the categories you created, sorted by group. Each one has Edit and Delete.
Create a category
- In Settings > Preferences > Categories, select Add a category. The Create category form opens.
- Under Icon & name, select the icon (Choose an icon) and pick any emoji, then type the name.
- Under Group, choose which of the app's category groups it belongs to.
- Save.
If a category already uses that name, the form says "A category with this name already exists". Pick another name.
You can also create a category on the spot: in any category picker, type the name and select Create new category. The form opens with your text already filled in.
Edit a category
Select Edit next to the category. The Edit category form lets you change the icon, the name and the group.
One limit: a category can't move between the income side and the spending side. If you need the other side, create a new category.
Delete a category
- Select Delete next to the category. A dialog asks "Delete" followed by the category name.
- Choose where its transactions, rules and recurring items go: pick a category under Move transactions to, or choose Leave uncategorized.
- Confirm.
With Leave uncategorized, its transactions become uncategorized and its rules are removed.
If you can't delete a category
A category used by a budget can't be deleted. The app shows: "A budget uses this category. Move that budget to another category or delete it, then try again." Change that budget's category, or delete the budget, then delete the category.
