Editing, adding and deleting transactions

Open a transaction's details, change its category, add one by hand, act on several at once and clean up duplicates.

Updated

Click any row on the Transactions page to open its details. From there you can change the category. Everything else about a transaction is fixed once it exists.

See a transaction's details

Clicking a row opens the Transaction detail drawer. Use the up and down arrows at the top to move to the neighbouring transactions.

The Details section shows the category, the account, the status, the payment channel, the authorized date when it differs, any notes, and the full description when it differs from the name. Below it, History at this merchant lists your other transactions from the same place.

Change the category

  1. Open the transaction, then select its category (or select the category chip on the row in the list).
  2. In Change category, type in Search categories... to find the one you want.
  3. Select it.

If the category doesn't exist yet, select Create new category; it starts with the text you typed.

Mozaic learns from this change: future transactions from that merchant, and your other past ones in the same account group that you haven't edited by hand, get the same category. The related article on category rules explains the exceptions.

To turn it into a rule, open the category chip on the row and select Always categorize this merchant as… before you pick the category. Mozaic saves a rule for future transactions and applies it right away to the past transactions it matches in the same account group and the same direction (money in or money out). Transactions you edited by hand, and those a more precise rule of yours already covers, keep their category.

What you can't edit

On an existing transaction, only the category can be changed. The amount, date and notes are fixed once the transaction is created, and a transaction can't be split.

If you added a transaction by hand and got the amount or date wrong, delete it and add it again.

Add a transaction by hand

  1. On the Transactions page, select Add Transaction (on a phone, the + button).
  2. Fill in the description, and the Merchant if you want (it's optional).
  3. Enter the Amount and choose Expense or Income.
  4. Under Select Account, choose the account, then set the Date and a category. Add notes if useful.
  5. Save.

Act on several transactions at once

Tick the checkbox on each row you want. A bar appears with the number selected and these actions:

  • Categorize: give them all the same category.
  • Confirm: confirm the categories AI chose (see the related article on reviewing categories).
  • Create rule: opens the Transaction Rules page, where you add the rule.
  • Delete: removes them after you confirm in the Delete Transaction dialog.

Resolve duplicate transactions

When Mozaic finds transactions with the same account, amount, date and description, a banner says how many groups of possible duplicates it found.

  1. Select Review on the banner. The Duplicate transactions page opens.
  2. For one group, select Keep this one on the row to keep.
  3. To handle every group in one go, select Resolve all, then Keep oldest or Keep newest.

A category you set by hand and any notes carry over to the row you keep.

Note: Resolving duplicates can't be undone. Check each group before you choose Resolve all.
