Budget alerts and spending limits

Mozaic notifies you in the app when a budget reaches 80% and 100% of its limit. Here is when alerts fire and how to turn them off.

Updated

Mozaic watches each budget and notifies you in the app when your spending gets close to the limit and again when it goes over. Budget alerts are on by default.

When an alert fires

There are two thresholds for every budget:

Spending reaches What it means
80% of the limit You are approaching the limit
100% of the limit You have gone over the limit

You get at most one alert of each kind per budget per day, so a busy shopping day does not flood you with notifications.

Mozaic checks your budgets after your accounts sync and after you edit transactions. If you add or change a transaction by hand, the check runs right after.

Note: Budget alerts appear inside the app only. They are not sent by email.

What you see on the Budgets page

You don't need to wait for an alert to see where you stand. On the Budgets page:

  • A budget between 80% and 100% counts toward Near Limit in the summary at the top.
  • A budget past 100% counts toward Over Budget, and its card shows how much you are over.
  • Budgets under 80% count as On Track.

Turn budget alerts on or off

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Under Privacy & Data, open Notifications.
  3. In the In-app alerts section, switch Budget alerts on or off. The helper text reads "Get notified when you approach or exceed a budget".

Turning the switch off stops these notifications. Your budgets keep tracking your spending, and the Budgets page still shows how close you are to each limit.

If something looks wrong

  • No alert, but the budget looks over: alerts are checked after a sync or an edit. If your accounts have not synced since the spending happened, the alert comes with the next sync.
  • The percentage seems off: a budget only counts spending from the accounts in its account group, and only money going out. Amounts are added as recorded, with no conversion between currencies.
