Keeping business and personal money apart

Use account groups to keep a business or joint account separate, and switch between groups from the sidebar.

Account groups keep some accounts apart from the rest, like a business or a joint account. Once you have more than one group, you choose which one to look at from the sidebar.

Create a group

  1. Go to Settings > Preferences > Account groups.
  2. Select Add a group. In the New group dialog, give it a name, for example the name of your business.
  3. On the new group, select Move accounts here and choose the accounts that belong to it.

Your default group is marked Default. To make another group the default, select Make default on it. To change a group's name, select Rename.

If you told us during onboarding that you want business money kept separate, the dashboard may offer Keep business money separate. Select Set it up to start, or Not now to hide it.

Switch between groups

Once you have more than one group, a switcher appears in the sidebar (Choose which accounts to show). Pick a group to see only its accounts, or All to see everything.

Transactions, budgets and categorization follow the group you pick. The Transactions page lists only that group's transactions.

How groups affect categories

  • When you change a category in one group, Mozaic learns from it and refiles similar transactions in that same group only. A change in your personal group never refiles your business group.
  • On a paid plan, AI leans toward business categories for transactions in a business group.

Money moved between groups

When you move money between your business and personal accounts, the Cash Flow page shows it as Owner transfers: money moved between your business and personal money, not counted in income or expenses. Paying yourself from the business doesn't inflate your personal income or your business expenses.

Delete a group

You can delete any group except the default one. Deleting a group deletes nothing else: before you confirm, the dialog lists the accounts and shows where they'll move ("Nothing is deleted. These move to" the group named there).

To delete the default group, first make another group the default.
