Reviewing categories chosen by AI

What the To review list is, how to confirm AI categories, and how categorization works on paid plans, the trial and the free plan.

On a paid plan, AI picks a category for new transactions that nothing else could file. Those transactions wait on the To review list until you confirm them or change them.

What "To review" means

A transaction is on the To review list when AI chose its category and you haven't confirmed it yet. Select the To review chip on the Transactions page to see only those.

This is not the same as Uncategorized, which lists transactions that have no category at all.

Confirm AI categories

  1. On the Transactions page, select the To review chip.
  2. Tick the checkbox on each transaction whose category is right.
  3. Select Confirm in the bar that appears.

You can confirm up to 200 transactions at a time. Transactions without a category are skipped.

There is no confirm button inside a single transaction's details. To confirm one, tick it in the list and select Confirm.

If a category is wrong, change it instead. A category you set by hand counts as yours, so the transaction leaves the list.

What confirming does

When you confirm:

  • The category is locked: later updates from your bank won't change it.
  • It's marked as your own choice.
  • Mozaic learns the merchant and refiles your other transactions from it, the same way it does when you edit a category by hand.

How a new transaction gets its category

Mozaic tries these in order and stops at the first that gives an answer:

  1. Your own rules.
  2. How you filed that merchant before.
  3. Rules learned from your edits.
  4. The category your bank or brokerage sent.
  5. A category AI already chose for that merchant.
  6. A new AI request.

Steps 5 and 6 need a paid plan and auto-categorization turned on. There is a daily limit on AI requests; transactions past it stay uncategorized and are tried again on the next sync.

In a business account group, AI leans toward business categories.

Turn auto-categorization on or off

  1. Go to Settings > Preferences > Auto-categorization.
  2. Switch Categorize new transactions automatically on or off.

On the trial or the free plan

AI categorization is part of paid plans; the trial doesn't include it. Without a paid plan, the switch above can't be turned on, and the page shows: "Automatic categorization by AI is part of paid plans. Your rules still apply."
