Attaching receipts and files to transactions

Attach a receipt or document to any transaction, view it in the app, download it or delete it, and what file types and sizes are accepted.

Updated

You can keep a receipt, an invoice or any supporting document with the transaction it belongs to. Attachments work on every transaction, from a connected account or one you keep by hand.

Attach a file to a transaction

  1. On the Transactions page, click the transaction to open its details.
  2. In the Attachments section, drop a file on the area that reads "Drop a receipt here or add a file", or select Add file and pick one or more files.

Each file shows its name and size once it is uploaded. Transactions with an attachment show a paperclip after their name in the list.

Attach files while adding a transaction

When you add a transaction by hand, the Add Transaction form has the same drop area after Notes. Add your files there; they upload once the transaction is saved, and a message confirms how many were attached. If one fails, the message names it and says why. Open the transaction to add it again.

View or download a file

Select a file in the Attachments section to open it in the app.

  • JPEG and PNG images open in a viewer where you can zoom in.
  • PDF files open in your browser's PDF viewer.
  • HEIC photos can't be previewed. Select Download to open them on your device.

Download saves a copy of the file.

Delete a file

Select the delete icon next to the file, then confirm in Delete attachment?. The file is removed from the transaction, and this can't be undone.

Attachments are also deleted when you delete their transaction, its account or your Mozaic account. When two duplicate transactions are merged, or a pending bank charge is replaced by the posted one, the files move to the transaction that stays.

File types and limits

  • Accepted types: PDF, JPEG, PNG and HEIC. The type is read from the file itself, so renaming a file does not change it.
  • Each file can be up to 10 MB.
  • You have 500 MB of attachment storage in total. When it is full, delete a file to make room.

If a file can't be attached, the app says why: "This file is too large to attach.", "Only PDF, JPEG, PNG and HEIC files can be attached.", "Your attachment storage is full. Delete a file to make room." or "This file is empty." Folders can't be attached.

How your files are kept

Each file, and its name, is encrypted with a key of your own before it is stored, in private storage with no public links. Viewing and downloading go through the app, and only you, or a partner you gave a login to your household, can open them.
