Sharing your account with a partner

Give one other person their own sign-in to your Mozaic account, list who owns each account, and remove a partner or leave a household.

Updated

You can give one other person, such as a spouse, their own sign-in to your Mozaic account. They see and edit the same accounts, budgets and transactions you do, with their own email and sign-in method. Billing, data export and account deletion stay with you, the account holder.

Invite a partner

  1. Go to Settings > Account > Shared access.
  2. Select Invite someone to sign in.
  3. Under Their email, type the address they will sign in with, then select Send invite.

They get an email with an Accept the invitation button. The link works once and expires after 7 days.

While the invite is open, Shared access shows when it expires, with Resend invite and Cancel invite. Resending sends a new link and the earlier one stops working. You can send an invite about once a minute.

A household has one partner login and one open invite at a time. You can't invite your own address.

Accept an invite

  1. Open the link in the email. The Join a household page opens.
  2. Sign in, or create an account, with the address the invite was sent to. Any sign-in method works.
  3. Select Join the household.

From then on, signing in with that address opens the household's account. An empty Mozaic account made with the same address, such as the one you just created to accept, is replaced.

If the page says Can't join this household, it gives the reason:

  • This address already has a Mozaic account with data: delete that account first, then open the invite again.
  • The invite expired, was cancelled or was already used: ask the account holder to send a new one.
  • You are signed in with a different address than the one invited: sign in with the invited address.
  • This login already opens another household: leave that household first.

What a partner can do

A partner can see and change everything in the account, except:

  • the subscription and billing, which the account holder manages and pays for;
  • exporting the data and deleting the account;
  • inviting, resending, cancelling or removing a partner login.

When a partner tries one of these, the app says "Only the account holder can do this." Each login keeps its own password and two-step verification.

Remove a partner or leave a household

  • Remove (account holder): in Shared access, select Remove next to your partner, then confirm. They are signed out right away and can no longer open the account. The accounts and transactions stay.
  • Leave household (partner): in Shared access, select Leave household, then confirm. You are signed out. If you sign in again later, you get an empty account of your own.

Who owns each account

The Account owners section, in Settings > Money, lists the people your accounts belong to. Select Add an owner to add someone, and rename or remove them there. An owner is a label on accounts: it doesn't let anyone sign in. To give one of them their own sign-in, use Shared access above.

To set an account's owner, open the account from the Accounts page and select its Owner chip. Under Who owns this account?, pick a person or Joint. The owner then shows under the account's type in the Accounts list. If you remove a person, their accounts become joint.

On the Holdings page, Filter by owner shows one person's holdings plus the joint ones.
