Reconnecting a bank or brokerage

When a connection breaks, Mozaic shows Reconnect. Here is why it happens and how to restore updates without creating duplicate accounts.

Updated

Banks sometimes ask you to sign in again: after a password change, after new security rules, or simply after a while. Until you do, the connection cannot update, and Mozaic asks you to reconnect.

How you know a reconnect is needed

  • The account's status line reads Reconnection needed.
  • A banner at the top of the Accounts page says Connection Update Required, with [bank name] needs you to sign in again to keep your data up to date.
  • When accounts are grouped by institution, the bank's header shows a Reconnect button. There is one per connection, not one per account.
  • The account panel shows the same banner with a Reconnect Now button.

Your saved balances and transactions stay in place while the connection is broken. They just stop updating.

Reconnect

  1. Click Reconnect Now on the banner, or Reconnect in the bank's header.
  2. A secure window opens for that bank. Sign in with your online-banking details and answer any code or question.
  3. When it finishes, the connection resumes and the account updates again.

For a brokerage connected through SnapTrade, the same button opens SnapTrade's repair steps.

Always use Reconnect rather than adding the bank again from Add Account. Adding it again creates a second connection and can duplicate your accounts. If you try, Mozaic warns you and offers Reconnect Now.

If something looks wrong

  • Reconnection was cancelled or incomplete. The window was closed before the end. Click Reconnect again.
  • That looks like a different bank login. You signed in with another username than the one used for this connection. Reconnect with the original login. To add another person's accounts, use Add Account instead.
  • Reconnect to resume updates. Your subscription is no longer active, so updates are paused (status Not updating). Reactivate your subscription first, then reconnect.
  • Locked by your bank. Reconnect is hidden on purpose. See the article on bank locks.
  • If reconnecting keeps failing, write to support@mozaicfinance.com with the bank's name.
