Mozaic Finance RRSP tracking

An RRSP tracker that lives inside your whole financial picture

Mozaic tracks your RRSP balance, the holdings inside it, and the money you move in and out, next to your TFSA, FHSA, chequing, and everything else you own. One number, refreshed as your accounts update, instead of a spreadsheet you have to keep by hand.

An RRSP is usually the largest registered account a Canadian holds, and it often sits at a different institution from the chequing account and the TFSA. That split is exactly why it is hard to answer a simple question: what is this account actually worth today, and what is inside it. Mozaic pulls every RRSP into one view so the answer is one glance, not three logins.

What Mozaic tracks in your RRSP

  • The current balance of every RRSP you hold, updated as each connection refreshes, and rolled into your total net worth.
  • The holdings inside it. For RRSPs connected through SnapTrade at a supported brokerage, Mozaic shows each position, its cost basis, and its gain or loss, not just a single account total.
  • Deposits and withdrawals as transactions in the account history, so a contribution you made in February and a withdrawal under the Home Buyers' Plan both show up on the timeline.
  • Every RRSP at once. A group RRSP at work, a self-directed RRSP at Questrade, and a spousal RRSP at the bank consolidate into one balance and one holdings view.

Connect it, or add it by hand

RRSP is a first-class account type in Mozaic, and it does not require a connection. There are two ways to track one:

  • Connected. Link a brokerage RRSP through SnapTrade (Wealthsimple, Questrade, Interactive Brokers, Qtrade, and the bank-owned brokerages) to pull holdings, cost basis, and transactions. Link a bank-held RRSP through Plaid to pull the balance and reported transactions. Both connections are read-only.
  • Manual. Add an RRSP with a balance you type in and update when it suits you. This is the right fit for a RRSP at an institution that does not connect cleanly, or when you would rather not link it at all.

What an RRSP tracker can and cannot tell you

This is the part most content skips, because most RRSP content on the internet quietly implies the opposite. Mozaic tracks what is in the account. It does not calculate your personal RRSP contribution room or your deduction limit.

Those two numbers depend on 18% of your prior-year earned income, your pension adjustment if you have a workplace pension, and any unused room you have carried forward from earlier years. None of that lives in a bank feed. It lives in your CRA My Account and on your latest Notice of Assessment, and that is the number to trust before you contribute. We would rather send you to the CRA than show you an estimate that could be wrong by thousands of dollars.

We do publish free contribution-room calculators for the two accounts where the rules are public and simple: the TFSA contribution room calculator and the FHSA contribution room calculator. RRSP room is personal to your tax return, so there is no equivalent RRSP calculator by design, not by omission.

A few more things worth being clear about. The RRSP contribution deadline for the prior tax year falls in the first 60 days of the following year, and Mozaic does not send you a deadline reminder or block a contribution that would put you over your limit. You can add a spousal RRSP and watch its balance, but Mozaic does not apply the spousal attribution rules. Treat the RRSP view as a clear, current picture of the account, and keep the CRA as the source of truth for room and for anything that touches your return.

RRSP, TFSA, or FHSA

If you are deciding where the next dollar should go, the trade-offs between the three registered accounts are worth reading in full. Our guide to the FHSA versus the RRSP versus the TFSA walks through when each one wins, and the two room calculators above give you the current-year numbers for the TFSA and the FHSA. Mozaic then tracks whichever accounts you open, together, in your base currency.

Frequently asked

No. Mozaic tracks your RRSP balance, holdings, and account activity. Your contribution room and deduction limit come from the CRA (your My Account and your Notice of Assessment), because they depend on 18% of your prior-year earned income, your pension adjustment, and any unused room carried forward. Mozaic does publish free TFSA and FHSA room calculators, where the rules are public and simple, but RRSP room is specific to your own tax return, so we point you to the CRA rather than estimate it.
Yes. Connect each RRSP through SnapTrade or Plaid, or add them manually, and Mozaic consolidates every RRSP into one balance and one holdings view alongside your TFSA, FHSA, chequing, and the rest of your net worth.
Yes. An RRSP can be a manual account: enter the balance yourself and update it whenever you like, with no brokerage connection required. Connecting the account through SnapTrade or Plaid instead pulls in holdings and transactions automatically.
You can add a spousal RRSP as its own account and track its balance and holdings. Mozaic does not model the spousal attribution rules (the three-year rule that can attribute a withdrawal back to the contributor), so treat it as a tracking view, not tax advice.
For an RRSP connected through SnapTrade at a supported brokerage, yes: each position, its cost basis, and its gain or loss. For a bank-held RRSP connected through Plaid, Mozaic shows the account balance and the transactions the bank reports.
