Viewing your holdings

Where your stocks and funds appear in Mozaic, how cost basis and gain % are worked out, and how to add holdings to an account that doesn't sync.

Updated

Mozaic has no separate Holdings page. Your holdings show up in three places: the dashboard, the account drawer on the Accounts page, and the Performance tab in Analytics.

Where holdings appear

  • Dashboard: the Holdings card lists your top holdings by value, with Symbol, Account, G/P and Value. Each row also shows the number of shares and the price. Click a row to open that holding's detail page.
  • Accounts page: open an investment account to see each holding in its drawer, with the symbol, quantity and price, gain % and value.
  • Analytics > Performance: the Holdings table shows Symbol / Account, Shares, Avg cost, Value, Weight and P&L for every holding.

How cost basis and gain % work

Cost basis is the quantity multiplied by the average cost per unit. The average cost comes from your brokerage when the account is connected, or from you when you enter the holding yourself.

  • Gain % compares the current value with that cost basis.
  • If a holding has no cost basis, its gain % stays blank. It is not shown as 0%.
  • If a holding has no price, a dash appears instead of a value.
  • When some holdings have no cost basis, a warning tells you how many.

Note: Mozaic uses the average cost as given. It does not track adjusted cost base (ACB) for tax purposes, so keep your own records for your tax return.

Add or edit a holding by hand

For an account that doesn't sync, you enter the holdings yourself.

  1. Go to the Accounts page and open the account.
  2. Select Add holding.
  3. Enter the Ticker and the Quantity.
  4. Enter a Market price, an Average cost, or both. You need at least one of the two.
  5. Save.

The Average cost is what you paid per unit. Gain and loss are measured against it, so leave it empty only if you don't know it (the gain % will then stay blank).

To change a holding later, open it and select Edit holding.

If something looks wrong

  • Gain % is blank: the holding has no cost basis. For a manual holding, edit it and add the Average cost. For a connected account, the figure comes from your brokerage.
  • A value is missing: no price was available for that holding. For a manual holding, add a Market price.
